Overview
Eye and eyelid cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma, can threaten both vision and overall eye health. Surgical treatment is often required to remove cancerous tissue while preserving function and appearance.
Common Symptoms
- New or changing lumps or lesions on the eyelid
- Persistent redness or irritation
- Loss of eyelashes near a growth
- Unexplained changes in vision
- Non-healing sores on or near the eye
Treatment
Surgical removal of cancerous growths is the primary treatment. Depending on the tumor size and location, reconstructive surgery may also be necessary. Early diagnosis improves outcomes and reduces the need for extensive reconstruction.
