Overview
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. It can lead to permanent central vision loss and is most common in people over 60.
Common Symptoms
- Blurred or distorted central vision
- Difficulty reading or recognizing faces
- Dark or empty areas in the center of vision
- Colors appearing less bright
Treatment
Anti-VEGF injections help to slow the growth of abnormal blood vessels in wet AMD. Dry AMD is managed with lifestyle changes, dietary supplements, and regular monitoring. Early intervention can help preserve functional vision.
