Overview
The retina is the thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye that detects light and sends images to the brain. Retinal diseases such as detachments, tears, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy require specialized care to preserve vision.
Common Symptoms
- Sudden flashes of light or floaters
- Loss of central or peripheral vision
- Blurred or distorted vision
- Shadows or curtains over part of your visual field
Treatment
Retina care includes laser treatment for tears, vitrectomy for retinal detachment, and injections for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Early diagnosis is vital to preventing irreversible vision loss.
